About The PADI MSDT

The PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating sets you apart as a dive instructor who takes continuing education seriously and is committed to teaching a variety of courses. Being an MSDT signifies that you've got the experience and certifications to offer all the training a diver needs to become a Master Scuba Diver - the ultimate recreational diver rating.

All PADI Instructors who have certified at least 25 PADI Divers and have earned at least five PADI Specialty Instructor certifications can be Master Scuba Diver Trainers. This rating is the next step up the professional ladder and is a prerequisite for IDC Staff Instructor as well as for many TecRec Instructor ratings.

Prerequisites

To qualify for training to become a PADI MSDT, you must:

  • Be a qualified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
  • Must hold 5 PADI Specialty instructor ratings(Excludes, PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy, PADI Aware and Coral Conservation Instructor ratings)
  • Have Certified 25 PADI Divers (As per the PADI teaching experience system)

Medical Requirements

Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months or full HSE Medical.

If you (or your physician) have questions about medical fitness to dive, contact the experts at Divers Alert Network (DAN), or your own Doctor.

You will not be able to participate in any pool or open water sessions without confirming your fitness to dive.

The Scuba Gear You Will Use

To take part in this course you will need to make sure you have, as minimum:

  • Fins, mask and snorkel
  • Buoyancy control device (BCD) with tank mount or separate backpack, and low-pressure inflator
  • Primary regulator and alternate air source
  • Breathing gas monitoring device (e.g. submersible pressure gauge)
  • Depth monitoring device
  • Quick release weight system and weights (if necessary for neutral buoyancy, or if required for skills practice)
  • Adequate exposure protection appropriate for our local dive conditions.
  • At least one audible emergency surface signaling device (whistle, air horn, etc.).
  • Dive computer or RDP Note: If dives are planned using the RDP, the diver must have a timing device.
  • In test scuba diving cylinder

During your course, we will offer equipment rental of all of the above core dive gear. You will be required to collect your core dive gear prior to the open water training dives from us.
