What Your Learn

To earn your Divemaster rating, you will complete a series of knowledge development sessions, water skill workshops and hands-on assessments for the following:

  • The role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster
  • Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers
  • Scuba diver safety and risk management
  • Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills
  • Business of diving and your career
  • Awareness of the dive environment
  • Scuba gear setup and management
  • Mapping an open water site
  • Conducting dive briefings
  • Organizing a search and recovery project and a deep dive
  • Conducting PADI ReActivate scuba refresher and skin diver course
  • Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs

What Can I Do As a Divemaster?

After becoming a qualified Divemaster there are so many aspects of diving you can teach, including the following:

  • Supervise both training and non-training-related activities by planning, organising and directing dives.
  • Assist a PADI instructor during the training sessions for any PADI diver course
  • Conduct the PADI Skin Diver course and PADI Discover Snorkelling programme.
  • Conduct the PADI Discover Local Diving experience.
  • Conduct the PADI Reactivate Course.
  • If qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader, independently conduct the PADI Discover Scuba Diving
  • Earn the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating to be able to teach the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer speciality.
  • Independently guide Open Water Diver course students on the tour portion of Open Water Diver course Training Divers 2, 3 and 4 at a ratio of two student divers per certified divemaster.
  • Accompany Open Water Diver students under the indirect supervision of a PADI instructor during surface swims and ascents or descents.
  • Accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or specialty training dives under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor.
  • Conduct the PADI Seal Team Skin Diver Specialist AquaMission.
  • Conduct subsequent dives under an instructor’s indirect supervision for Discover Scuba Diving participants after participants have satisfactorily completed the first dive with a PADI Instructor.
  • Teach Emergency First Response courses after successfully completing an Emergency First Response Instructor course.

They are here to make sure you get all the attention and time that you need and of course to make your training fun! All our team members are experienced Course Directors, Master Instructors or IDC Staff instructors that have worked in the industry for years and have great experience when it comes to training the best dive professionals.

We are dedicated to your training because we believe that each of our candidates should get 100% of our time and effort to become the best dive professionals in the industry. We also have a full team of experienced, PADI Instructors ready to help you to reach your Professional Diving Goals.

Prerequisites

Minimum Age: 18*

Course prerequisites:

  • PADI Rescue Diver certification (or qualifying certification)
  • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care training (or qualifying training) within 24 months
  • 40 logged dives
  • Medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within the past 12 months

* Divers who are younger than 18 but at least 15 may enroll in the PADI Junior Divemaster program.

Junior Divemaster is a sub-set of the PADI Divemaster course. Junior Divemaster candidates may complete a significant portion of the divemaster course, but additional training is required when the Junior Divemaster turns 18.

Junior Divemaster program prerequisites:

  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and PADI Rescue Diver diver certifications
  • 20 logged dives
  • Medical clearance to dive

Medical Requirements

Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months or full HSE Medical.

If you (or your physician) have questions about medical fitness to dive, contact the experts at Divers Alert Network (DAN), or your own Doctor.

You will not be able to participate in any pool or open water sessions without confirming your fitness to dive.

The Scuba Gear You Will Use

To take part in this course you will need to make sure you have, as minimum:

  • Fins, mask and snorkel
  • Buoyancy control device (BCD) with tank mount or separate backpack, and low-pressure inflator
  • Primary regulator and alternate air source
  • Breathing gas monitoring device (e.g. submersible pressure gauge)
  • Depth monitoring device
  • Quick release weight system and weights (if necessary for neutral buoyancy, or if required for skills practice)
  • Adequate exposure protection appropriate for our local dive conditions.
  • At least one audible emergency surface signaling device (whistle, air horn, etc.).
  • Dive computer or RDP Note: If dives are planned using the RDP, the diver must have a timing device.
  • In test scuba diving cylinder

During your course, we will offer equipment rental of all of the above core dive gear. You will be required to collect your core dive gear prior to the open water training dives from us.
